Ward Is All White For Leeds

Newspaper reports today have confirmed that Portsmouth’s Joel Ward is on the verge of signing for Leeds United within the coming weeks.  Ward who is also a target for Ipswich Town but looks likely to follow his team mate and close friend Jason Pearce to Elland Road.

The 22 year old has followed a similar career path to Pearce, spending valuable playing time on loan at Bournemouth. Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton recently said about Ward and Pearce:
“They are two peas in a pod, where one goes the other follows.”
Ward has become a versatile footballer over the past couple of seasons and can play centre back, defensive midfield, right back and has featured the left side of midfield for most of this season at Fratton Park. With the club recently placing current Leeds United right back Paul Connelly on the transfer list, Ward could be brought in to cement that place his own.

With Portsmouth’s current financial situation the Whites could once again be getting another promising player on the cheap with a fee of £250,000 been reported to bring him to Elland Road.

They say that he is very good and developing. Warnock will make him a much better player and with his versatility would be fantastic. Snap him up that is what I say. Another good now and the future of United

  • LiKW says:

Ward has played most of this season on the left wing as an attacking option. Right back is where he should be playing though.

  • Davey Boy Smith says:

Would be over the moon if we sign Ward. In all honesty i haven’t seen him play in midfield but i have seen him at right back a few times and he has impressed me every-time. Id say with Ward, Pearce, Lees, and Aidy White (contract pending) we would have a young solid back four that could emulate the Gunners famous defence. If only… MOT!

  • Mike says:

I know people will moan about us raiding Pompey. But they do have good players, and sadly due to their situation, good players are going cheap. Snap up as many as we can!

    • Right In The Gary Kelly's says:

Varney and Halford would be another two id take. But thats it because will start getting the bloke with the Pompey Tatoos and blue wig ringing that bloody bell at Elland Road every week

  • Da Boss says:

Ward really isn’t all that. Alot of huff and puff and not much else. Pearce on the other hand is an excellent player. You got a real bargain there.
