Last week we had the pleasure of an invite to Thorp Arch to meet up with LUFC Channel Rowing team.
The team is to embark on rowing both directions on 8/6/14 hoping to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Cancer Research.
The team is made of Campbell Watt,(Sports Massage Therapist), Chris Short,(Conditioning Coach, Ex Sheffield Utd, Notts County),Harvey Sharman,(LUFC Head Physiotherapist), Craig Short,(Head of Recruitment Derby County ex Everton, Blackburn Rovers), LUFC’s Jamie Ashdown and Danny Mills,(Ex England, Man City, Boro and LUFC), after the photo calls and interviews with the team we caught up with Danny Mills and talked about his time at Leeds United.
Danny joined the club in 1999 for £4.1 million from Charlton Athletic, at the time he was much in demand, a pacey and powerful right back, in the mould of Micah Richards for the younger amongst you. Leeds beat off the likes of Newcastle, Spurs and Liverpool for his signature, but hey, money was no object. He quickly became a key defender for club and country.
He lived the highs of the clubs Champions League adventure but then also experienced the lows of the clubs financial meltdown. He talks in detail the events which surrounded his departure and why Ken Bates refused to take him back.It only seems like yesterday but Danny’s hometown club were none other than Norwich – imagine that a footballer signed from Norwich – how times have changed.
