Becchio on a free – The Leeds fans reaction

Luciano-Becchio

This evening it was announced that Championship play-off final winners Norwich will not be renewing the contract of former Leeds United hero Luciano Becchio.

Becchio, who since joining the Canaries in 2013 has found life tough at Carrow Road only making 13 league appearances. Due to injury and poor form he found himself at Rotherham this season but after a foot  injury this cut his loan spell short.

The majority of the Leeds fans base still holds the powerful Argentinian in high regard and once the news broke, fans took to Twitter to express their feelings of a possible sensational return for Becchio this summer.

    Oh No!!!!
We do not need Beckhio or Beckford!
It is five long years since they worked in tandem to gain promotion from League 1.
Never go back is the most succinct adage!
We need to sign young hungry players who will improve, not a man who has hardly kicked a ball in anger for over two years and another who has really only sparkled under Simon Grayson in a lower league!.

Michael, you are so right … up to know, as far as I know, we have been linked to Paul Robinson (35) – Scott Carson (29) – Jermaine Beckford (31) and now Luciano Becchio (31) and every time a former player either does something good, or is at the end of his contract we have a section of Leeds fans clamouring for their return. I’m delighted to see I’m not on my own in believing that if we are to show any intent and ambition, we MUST aim higher than this.

For example, we already have a quality young GK in Marco Silvestri, who will improve with experience and, much as I like Paul Robinson, I would only want him as back-up to Silvestri, ala Stuart Taylor. As for strikers … as you say, sign hunger and commitment and not more looking for a last pay packet.

I think Becchio and Beckford would be useful additions for a Club in League 1.
Too use up a striker place in the squad for an over the hill immobile 30+ player would signal a serious lack of ambition.
